On a specialty coffee date in Toulouse – Café La Fiancée

Toulouse was one of the few places I’ve been to that has won me over in a heartbeat! The pink city, who received its name due to the characteristic red-brick architecture everywhere, is full of little treasures waiting to be discovered. Walking through the nostalgic alleys while experiencing only cheerful and lively vibes, I just couldn’t help to fall head over heals for this place! Take a stroll along the bank of river La Garonne, visit incredible roman sights such as Basilique Saint-Sernin and emerge yourself in the many culinary adventures Toulouse has to offer. But most importantly, drink quality coffee at La Fiancée!

La Fiancée is the only coffee shop serving specialty coffee in Toulouse since its opening in September 2012. Situated in one of the hippest parts of the city, between the Capitol and Place de la Daurade, it is the perfect place to unwind and let life go by. Specialty coffee roaster COUTUME from Paris has found a home here and I got to enjoy an espresso with naturally processed beans by the Mengalli family in Vale dos Italianos, Divinolândia, Brazil. Don’t you just love tracing your coffee all the way back to a single farm?

Breakie and brunch lovers will be happy to know that there is a weekend menu satisfying all of your needs. I found the options to be a fusion between french classics and typical coffee shop favourites. Oh, and they’ve got cakes to die for.
Arnaud and Olivier, the two co-owners, have been friends for over 18 years and have both lived and worked abroad for many years. They discovered their love for coffee in New York and decided to open their first business in Toulouse, the birth place of Olivier. When I asked Arnaud why La Fiancée after 5 years is still the only specialty coffee shop in Toulouse, he said with a cheeky smile that French people don’t care about good coffee. But this is definitely changing in recent years.
