About This Coffee

This coffee is from the Alo washing station in the Bensa zone of Ethiopia's Sidama region, grown and managed by Tuke at approximately 2400 meters altitude. It is a washed coffee where ripe cherries are floated in water to remove defective cherries, then depulped immediately and dried on raised beds until 10.8% moisture. The coffee presents a clean washed profile with super floral characteristics, low intensity fruit, and notes of pink pepper and earl grey tea that shine in every brewing method.

Rose Coffee Roasters was founded in 2022 in Zurich by Matt Winton, the 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion, together with Frederic Brunner. Matt's background spans aircraft engineering in Australia and years of competition at the highest level of specialty coffee. The team, which includes Sierra Yeo (2022 UK Brewers Cup Champion), roasts exclusively on Stronghold electric roasters powered by 100% renewable electricity. Every batch is roasted to order, with a deliberate focus on brightness, sweetness, and flavor. Rose sources top end specialty lots through direct relationships with farmers in Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, and Indonesia. The name represents a duality Matt finds in great coffee: something simple and familiar on the surface, yet layered and complex underneath. It is a small, independent roastery with no shortcuts and no cheap blends.
