Alo Special Hybrid Washed

Alo Special Hybrid Washed

Rose Coffee Roasters

About This Coffee

This coffee is from the Sidama region of Ethiopia, specifically from the Bensa zone in Delo Kebele. It is sourced from Tamiru Tadesse's washing station called Alo, where coffee is grown and managed by Tuke at approximately 2400 meters altitude. The unique processing method involves fermentation in cherry for 24 hours, followed by depulping and an additional 24-hour fermentation in mucilage before washing and drying on raised beds. This hybrid washed process creates a coffee profile with sweet peach notes, cleaner jasmine florals, and livelier acidity, sitting in the spectrum of clean washed coffees with enhanced sweetness and mouthfeel.

Rose Coffee Roasters

Rose Coffee Roasters was founded in 2022 in Zurich by Matt Winton, the 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion, together with Frederic Brunner. Matt's background spans aircraft engineering in Australia and years of competition at the highest level of specialty coffee. The team, which includes Sierra Yeo (2022 UK Brewers Cup Champion), roasts exclusively on Stronghold electric roasters powered by 100% renewable electricity. Every batch is roasted to order, with a deliberate focus on brightness, sweetness, and flavor. Rose sources top end specialty lots through direct relationships with farmers in Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, and Indonesia. The name represents a duality Matt finds in great coffee: something simple and familiar on the surface, yet layered and complex underneath. It is a small, independent roastery with no shortcuts and no cheap blends.
