Torque Coffee

About This Coffee

A washed coffee from Aricha Woreda in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia's Gedeo Zone, sourced from over 800 smallholder farmers at the Adorsi washing station directed by Faysel Yonnis. Grown at 1900–2150 meters elevation, the Kerume variety undergoes careful processing including floating, traditional disc pulping, 24+ hour fermentation, and 10–12 days of slow drying on raised beds. The cup features delicate floral notes of jasmine, honeysuckle, and lemon blossom with melon and green grape, balanced by juicy brightness of mango, honeydew, red apple, and citrus, finishing with matcha, cocoa, and milk chocolate.

Torque Coffee

Nanelle and Andy Newbom founded Torque Coffee in San Diego in 2022, bringing roughly 25 years of combined experience in roasting, green coffee sales, and specialty coffee organizations, including co founding the Barista Guild of America. Nanelle handles 100 percent of the roasting on a Diedrich IR5, and no coffee leaves the roastery more than 48 hours after it was roasted. Torque operates a Proportional Pricing model in which producers receive a fixed percentage of the retail price: 20 percent on single bag purchases and 35 percent on wholesale. All paper products are recycled, FSC certified, and home compostable, wholesale deliveries use reusable canisters, and shipping mailers are made from limestone quarry waste. The roastery has earned multiple Golden Bean Awards.
