About This Coffee

This washed coffee originates from Uraga, Ethiopia, and is produced by 1,814 smallholders contributing to the Layo Teraga Site 1. The varietal 74158 beans were hand-picked, sorted, and floated to remove defects, then washed in open concrete tanks for 40-48 hours. Drying took place on raised beds for 12-15 days. The coffee features bright yellow fruit notes of yellow fig and apricot with elegant floral characteristics of jasmine and elderflower.

Founded by Maxwell, who previously roasted for Jimmy Beans, the operation is built around sourcing and small batch production. Shoebox conducts origin trips to build direct relationships with farmers, including work with Hacienda La Papaya in Saraguro, Ecuador, sourcing varietals like Mejorado, Sidra, and Geisha. New coffee drops are released every Sunday, roasted and shipped fresh. It is a young roastery that has quickly earned a following in the specialty coffee community for the quality and intentionality of its sourcing.
