This Heirloom variety coffee is harvested at 1800 meters above sea level in the Yirgacheffe district of Ethiopia. It received a cupping score of 88 and is graded G1 (Grade 1). The coffee has a richer, heavier, and more complex profile with floral, tropical fruit, mango, and passionfruit notes. It features citric acidity and sweet characteristics, making it particularly exceptional as a filter coffee.
Ovenbird Coffee Roasters was incorporated in 2014 and operates from Glenwood Business Park in Glasgow, with roots in the Blackwood Estate near Lanark. Named after a migratory songbird that takes refuge in heavily shaded coffee farms, the roastery endorses traditional Italian coffee craft while working through a direct trade model. The team travels to origin to meet growers, many of whom are women led cooperatives, and agrees terms face to face. Their range includes a distinctive whisky barrel coffee series that infuses the character of fine Scotch into the beans. Single origins span Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Indonesia Sumatra, Rwanda, and limited edition lots like a Peruvian Gesha.
