This is a blend of Sumatran and Central and/or South American washed coffees, roasted to the darker side of medium. The blend is designed to endure the rigors of a dark roast while delivering bold, full-bodied flavor. Flavor notes include semi-sweet chocolate and hazelnut. The coffee is sourced from farms focused on environmental stewardship.
ZOLO began in 2013 as a family project by Dave, Laurie, and their son Nick, and has grown into a vertically integrated roasting operation in Berkeley, California. The company handles every step from sourcing to distribution, roasting on Loring machines designed for energy efficiency and low carbon output. ZOLO sources directly from small lot farmers, paying well above commodity prices, and holds Rainforest Alliance certification. Designated as both woman owned and veteran owned, the company donates spent coffee grounds to local farmers for composting, closing the loop on its production cycle. It is a roaster that grew from a family's shared curiosity into a serious, values driven operation.
