This coffee comes from Ixlama in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, sourced from specialty-selected small producers including Finca El Paternal and Finca Nueva Palmira from the highlands of Huehuetenango. It is a shade-grown coffee that is harvested and sun-dried on patios before being placed in guardiolas for further processing. The beans are separated by color via computer and by density and size mechanically, resulting in a superior, clean, bright cup. We taste tangerine, chocolate and hints of walnuts with a well-balanced profile featuring citrus acidity and body.
Amy and Scott Angelo founded Oceana Coffee Roasters in Tequesta, Florida in 2009, beginning with a DIY popcorn maker before evolving their equipment as the operation expanded. A 7 kilogram Diedrich in 2011 provided their first purpose built roaster, and today they operate a Giesen roaster that enables greater production capacity and precision. Scott holds certification as an Arabica Q Grader and maintains 15 year relationships with brokers and farms, sourcing exclusively from the top 5 percent of coffees worldwide. Recognition includes a Silver Medal at the Golden Bean World Series and Scotts selection as Overall Best Roaster at the 2016 Golden Bean North America competition, acknowledging the roasterys pursuit of excellence.
