This coffee is a regional blend from the El Progreso department of Guatemala, grown in the Sierra de Las Minas mountain range at 1,800 meters altitude. Produced by 225 smallholding farmers organized by Don Higinio Gomez, this washed coffee features a flavor profile of orange, baker's chocolate, and walnut. The beans are a mix of Catuai, Bourbon, and Typica varieties, processed and dried at Beneficio La Esperanza.
Jonathan Meadows and Nathan Shelton founded Cultivar Coffee Roasting Co. in 2009 in Dallas, both having come up through the local specialty scene at White Rock Coffee and Pearl Cup Coffee. Meadows was the first Dallas barista to reach the national stage of the U.S. Barista Championship. The roastery and cafe have operated since 2011 inside Goodfriend Package at 1155 Peavy Road in East Dallas. Cultivar maintains long term direct trade relationships with farmers, many exceeding six years, and pays producers 40 to 60 percent above commodity market value. A mobile espresso cart catering service covers weddings, corporate events, and private functions throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area.
