This coffee is a single origin from Huila, Colombia. It is produced by smallholders in rural areas of Huila at 1700-2000 meters altitude. The coffee is washed processed and made from Castillo, Caturra, and Tabi varieties. The soil characteristics include clay loam and volcanic ash. This is a darker roast version of their Huila Reserve, with increased roasting levels.
Based in Rye, New Hampshire but rooted in Colombian heritage, La Mulita was founded by Medellin native Max Pruna who discovered specialty coffee through George Howell in 2015. The roastery exclusively focuses on Colombian single origins from small farms between 2 to 5 acres, paying farmers three times the standard rate for quality beans scoring 84 points and above. Named after the mules that transport coffee cherries down Colombian mountains, they travel annually to Colombia to maintain direct relationships with producers and roast in small batches to ensure exceptional freshness. Won WMUR Viewers Choice Best Coffee in NH 2021.
