About This Coffee

This coffee is from Gatagua Farmers Cooperative Society, located in Murang'a on the southwestern slopes of Mount Kenya and eastern slopes of the Aberdare Mountains. The cooperative was licensed in December 2019 and has 609 active members (409 men and 200 women). The varieties grown include older SL varieties and newer Ruiru and Batian cultivars. Coffee cherries are delivered on the same day of harvest, soaked to remove floating defects, then pulped. The coffee undergoes its first fermentation overnight, followed by a second soak with fresh water for an additional night. After washing, it is surface-dried for 6–8 hours before moving to raised drying beds for approximately 20 days. The flavor profile features rhubarb lemonade, blackcurrant, and citrus.
