Konyu AB is sourced from small family-owned farms delivering cherries to the Konyu factory, part of the Kabare Farmers' Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga, on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. Around 1,400 farmers affiliated with Konyu grow coffee at 1,900-2,000 meters above sea level in deep red volcanic soils. The coffee is predominantly SL28 and SL34 cultivars, complemented by Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties. Cherries are handpicked when fully ripe, pulped, and fermented for approximately 16 hours in concrete tanks. The coffee is then washed in clean mountain-fed water from the Konyu spring and Thiba river, graded in channels, and sun-dried on raised tables for 14-21 days. This coffee was sourced through Falcon Coffees.
Founded in 2012 by Jens Crabbe, MOK began as a small roastery and bar in Leuven before expanding to Brussels. Jens, a two time former Belgian Cup Tasters Champion, is driven by a desire to explore the full potential of coffee flavor. MOK's philosophy is centered on an omni roast approach, where they develop one ideal roast profile for each coffee that works for both filter and espresso. This method aims to showcase the coffee's inherent sweetness and terroir with maximum clarity and minimal roast influence.
