Kenya Ngurueri

About This Coffee

This single-origin coffee is from the Ngurueri washing station in Kenya, located at 1760 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Kenya in Embu County. The washing station, built in 1968, processes coffee from almost 1,500 smallholder farmers who are part of the Murue Farmer's Cooperative Society. The coffee features Batian, SL-28, SL-34, and Ruiru-11 varieties grown in red volcanic soil. Cherries are handpicked, sorted, pulped, and fermented for 12-48 hours before being fully washed and dried on raised beds for 2-3 weeks. The light roast offers flavor notes of gooseberry, Navajo tea, and jujube.

Wasatch Roasting Company

Wasatch Roasting Company was founded in 2016 by Darren and Tonya Blackford after a trip to Costa Rica sparked their fascination with small scale coffee roasting. What started with a tabletop roaster has grown into an in house roasting operation in downtown Ogden, Utah, where the Blackfords roast specialty grade beans in small batches. The company sources from producers and importers who prioritize sustainable practices and fair compensation. Wasatch also doubles as a community gathering space, featuring rotating gallery exhibitions and work by local artists and artisans throughout the shop.
