New Harvest Coffee Roasters

About This Coffee

This organic blend features coffee from ASOBAGRI Coop in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala, surrounded by the Cuchumantanes Mountains and the Maxbal Forest Reserve. ASOBAGRI (Asociacion Barillense de Agricultores) was founded in 1989 by 20 Mayan coffee and cardamom farmers and currently has more than 1,200 cooperative members from approximately 30 small villages. The coffee is shade grown under guava, plantain and banana trees. ASOBAGRI promotes sustainable agriculture by training its farmers in organic production methods and continues to reinvest in infrastructure while exploring new quality control measures through financing and operating their own warehouses and drying patios.

New Harvest Coffee Roasters

Rik Kleinfeldt and Paula Anderson established New Harvest Coffee Roasters in Providence, Rhode Island in 2000, setting the foundation for a roastery defined by ethical sourcing and operational excellence. Their Loring Peregrine 70 kilogram roaster became the centerpiece of an operation that introduced a source direct program in 2007, transforming how they connect with coffee producers. Staff members travel yearly to coffee farms in Central and South America, building relationships and ensuring payment of at least 20 percent above Fair Trade minimum prices. Operating as a Certified Organic Handler using 100 percent renewable electricity, and having created Rhode Islands first barista training program in 2008, New Harvest has woven sustainability and education into every aspect of their business.
