Papua New Guinea coffee sourced from approximately 4,000 farmers in the Simbai region, which borders the Western Highlands. The region is mountainous with rich volcanic soil, and coffee is transported via small planes and foot due to limited accessibility. The coffee is washed-processed and yields a sweet, fruit-forward cup profile.
Marissa Childers founded Tanbrown Coffee in Atlanta in 2022, bringing a focus on Asian coffee origins that remains rare in specialty roasting. Childers learned to roast through the Glitter Cat program, which brings people from marginalized backgrounds into the coffee industry, and has since gone on to judge national competitions. Tanbrown sources exclusively from Asian growing regions or through direct connections, treating the work as a love letter to an underrepresented part of the coffee world. Childers spent over a year developing her palate and understanding acidity, body, and balance before launching, and that deliberateness carries through every roast.
