This is a shade-grown, chemical-free Arabica coffee grown by small scale farmers in Haiti, specifically from the Thiotte region. The coffee is available in medium-dark roast, dark roast, and Caribbean spiced roast variations. The medium-dark roast is well-balanced with hints of chocolate and nutty undertones. The dark roast is robust yet smooth with less acidity and no bitter aftertaste. The Caribbean spiced option combines Haitian coffee with cinnamon spice for a sweet aroma.
Caribbrew was founded by Beverly Malbranche, operating since 2018 in Newark, New Jersey, with a mission to showcase and promote coffee from the Caribbean islands. The roastery focuses exclusively on Caribbean origins including Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, sourcing through direct trade relationships with farmers and cooperatives. All coffee is roasted in small batches to highlight the unique flavour profiles of each island's growing regions. McCurdy has built the business around educating customers on Caribbean coffee history and culture alongside retail, wholesale, and online sales.
