This coffee comes from the Abadatezuka Cooperative, a group of smallholder farmers in Rwanda's Western Province who deliver their coffee to the Cyato Washing Station in the Nayamasheke district. The coffee is grown at elevations between 1850-2200 meters above sea level in the areas of Kivoga, Kageyo, Rusumo, Gatare, and Nsinduka. The washing station was established in 2017. The coffee features Bourbon variety and is washed processed. Native honeybees from the Nyungwe forest contribute to pollination, and the coffee grows in black humus and sandy soil with a cool climate influenced by proximity to Lake Kivu. Farmers use no synthetic fertilizers or pest control. This is a light roast (Agtron 102) with flavor notes of hazelnut, frosted flakes, and Asian pear.
Wasatch Roasting Company was founded in 2016 by Darren and Tonya Blackford after a trip to Costa Rica sparked their fascination with small scale coffee roasting. What started with a tabletop roaster has grown into an in house roasting operation in downtown Ogden, Utah, where the Blackfords roast specialty grade beans in small batches. The company sources from producers and importers who prioritize sustainable practices and fair compensation. Wasatch also doubles as a community gathering space, featuring rotating gallery exhibitions and work by local artists and artisans throughout the shop.
