This is a fully washed coffee from the Sake coffee washing station in Ngoma district, Eastern Province of Rwanda. Since 2013, this coffee has been produced by 2,400 farmers, mainly women, as part of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Rwanda. The coffee offers orange peel and tangy citrus overtones with a berry jam-like mouthfeel.
Ovenbird Coffee Roasters was incorporated in 2014 and operates from Glenwood Business Park in Glasgow, with roots in the Blackwood Estate near Lanark. Named after a migratory songbird that takes refuge in heavily shaded coffee farms, the roastery endorses traditional Italian coffee craft while working through a direct trade model. The team travels to origin to meet growers, many of whom are women led cooperatives, and agrees terms face to face. Their range includes a distinctive whisky barrel coffee series that infuses the character of fine Scotch into the beans. Single origins span Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Indonesia Sumatra, Rwanda, and limited edition lots like a Peruvian Gesha.
