Bard Coffee

About This Coffee

This natural processed coffee comes from the Shantawene Washing Station in Sidamo, Ethiopia, located at 2000-2200 meters altitude near the base of the Bombe mountain in Southern Ethiopia. The coffee is produced by smallholder farmers from the nearby villages of Shantawene and Bombe who are paid premiums to deliver extremely high-quality and freshly picked cherries. The varieties are 74-110 and 74-165. Cherries are evaluated based on color, ripeness, and density before being floated, then dried on raised beds with consistent rotation to ensure even drying. The coffee features flavor notes of blueberry, yogurt smoothie, strawberry, vanilla, and milk chocolate with a light roast profile.

Bard Coffee

Bard Coffee was founded in 2010 by Bob Garver and Jeremy Pelkey in downtown Portland, Maine, and was named by CNN as one of the country's seventeen best coffee makers. The roastery uses Loring Smart Roast technology, which cuts energy consumption by up to 80% while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Both co owners have visited every single farm featured on the menu, sourcing through a direct trade model that prioritises transparency and support for growers. Bard specialises in single origin coffees roasted in house and received a 2017 Good Food Award for its commitment to building a responsible food system. Bob Garver also co founded Wicked Joe Coffee with his wife Carmen.
