About This Coffee

This coffee is sourced from the Shyira Washing Station in the mountainous district of Nyamasheke, Rwanda. Coffee cherries are collected from neighboring producers at the highest grown altitude in Rwanda, making this natural process coffee extremely rare. The coffee is processed through Raw Material and their partner Muraho Trading Co., which works with local producers. During processing, workers perform a unique fermentation technique involving stomping on the parchment in fermentation tanks for about 20 minutes while singing the washing station's traditional song, which assists the fermentation process through agitation.

Redemption Roasters

Redemption Roasters was founded in 2017 by Max Dubiel and Ted Rosner with a singular mission: reducing reoffending through coffee. The roastery operates a Loring S70 Peregrin inside HMP The Mount in Hemel Hempstead, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, and opened a second facility in Wembley in 2023. Barista academies now run in nine or more prisons across the UK, and over 1,500 individuals have completed training programmes. The results are striking: a 4% reoffending rate among their graduates compared to the national average of 42%. Redemption operates twelve London coffee shops and generates £3.47 in social value for every pound invested. Sourcing reflects the same ethos, including beans from Colombian ex paramilitary farmers rebuilding their lives and from female producers in Brazil.
