This single origin coffee comes from Rwanda's Nyaruguru District in the Southern Province. Produced at the Fuji Washing Station located at 1550 meters altitude, with contributing farms ranging from 1500 to 1850 meters above sea level. The coffee is Red Bourbon variety, processed using the washed method. It features a dark roast profile with tasting notes of rich chocolate, smooth character, and notably no smokey taste. The coffee is sourced through Baho Coffee, who operate the washing station with focus on fair wages, pensions, and support for all-women farms.
The Artery Community Roasters is a social enterprise based in Ottawa, Ontario, employing people living with disabilities at living wages. They roast in small batches on a Coffee Crafters Artisan XL with a capacity of up to 10 pounds per roast, and ship within one week of roasting. Sourcing is done on a direct trade basis, maintaining one to two degrees of separation from the farmers. The Artery was named Coffee Roaster of the Month by Commonly Coffee.
