This coffee originates from Koperasi Produsen Putra Tani Berkarya (KPPTB), a cooperative founded in 2022 by younger generation farmers in the Bener Meriah and Aceh Tengah (Central Aceh) regions of Sumatra. The cooperative consists of around 708 farmers from nine villages in the area. The coffee is grown at 1400-1600 meters altitude in the famous Gayo coffee region, known for its cool climate, large hills, and volcanic soil. The coffee features Ateng, Bor Bor, Catimor, and Timor varieties, processed using the wet-hulled method. The roast is medium-light with an Agtron level of 82, offering flavor notes of orange zest, tobacco, and clove.
Wasatch Roasting Company was founded in 2016 by Darren and Tonya Blackford after a trip to Costa Rica sparked their fascination with small scale coffee roasting. What started with a tabletop roaster has grown into an in house roasting operation in downtown Ogden, Utah, where the Blackfords roast specialty grade beans in small batches. The company sources from producers and importers who prioritize sustainable practices and fair compensation. Wasatch also doubles as a community gathering space, featuring rotating gallery exhibitions and work by local artists and artisans throughout the shop.
