This Sumatran coffee is produced by family-owned farms in the Takengon highlands of Aceh province, organized through the Koperasi Kopi Gayo Organic cooperative (KKGO). Grown at 1,200-1,500 meters altitude, it features varieties including Bourbon, Catimor, S-795, and Typica. The coffee is wet hulled and patio and solar dried. It offers flavor notes of chocolate, cherry, truffle, cocoa, berry, and clove with a slightly spicy character. Dark roasted, it is sweet, smooth, and full-bodied with moderate acidity and a mild earthy finish. Certified Fair Trade and Organic.
Douglas Pinto and his wife Daria founded Steel Cup Coffee Roasters as a family business in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. The roastery sources exclusively Fair Trade and USDA Certified Organic coffees from ethical cooperatives around the world, and their facility holds Pennsylvania Certified Organic status. All coffee is roasted in small batches on a roaster imported from Türkiye and packaged to order, with eco friendly compostable bags and only USDA approved organic cleaning products used throughout the facility. Steel Cup is a roastery where the values are baked into the operation rather than bolted on.
