This coffee is a single lot from Canuelas de Naranjo in the West Valley of Costa Rica, grown at 1300-1400 meters above sea level. Produced by Marianella Baez Jost and her husband Jonathan on volcanic soil with warm temperatures. The coffee is the Villa Sarchi variety, processed using the Yellow Honey method. It is a light roast with medium acidity, light body, and a sweet honey finish. Tasting notes include nectarine, apricot, and brown sugar.
Uncommon Coffee started as a cafe in Saugatuck, Michigan in 1994, founded by Guy Darienzo and Stephen Keye. In 2021, after 27 years under the original owners, the business was acquired by Bruno Nobre and Mauricio DaSilva, both from multi generational coffee farming families in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. They had previously supplied beans to Uncommon as partner farmers, making the transition from grower to roaster a natural one. The roastery now serves over 200 businesses across the Midwest. Uncommon is farmer owned and minority owned, and operates with a goal of being landfill free, using BPI certified compostable cups and sleeves throughout.
