This is the darkest roast from Zolo Coffee Roasters. It is a blend utilizing Central and South American washed coffees, roasted well into second crack for a full-bodied bold flavor. The flavor profile features hints of fig and chocolate. The name derives from an Italian idiom meaning good luck to those going out on the hunt.
ZOLO began in 2013 as a family project by Dave, Laurie, and their son Nick, and has grown into a vertically integrated roasting operation in Berkeley, California. The company handles every step from sourcing to distribution, roasting on Loring machines designed for energy efficiency and low carbon output. ZOLO sources directly from small lot farmers, paying well above commodity prices, and holds Rainforest Alliance certification. Designated as both woman owned and veteran owned, the company donates spent coffee grounds to local farmers for composting, closing the loop on its production cycle. It is a roaster that grew from a family's shared curiosity into a serious, values driven operation.
