This Colombian coffee is produced by three women from the Huila region: Aydy Ortiz (40% of the blend), Lorena Munoz (30%), and Stefany Martinez (30%). Aydy Ortiz from finca La Lomita has dedicated her life to coffee production. Lorena Munoz from finca El Aguacatal is the second generation in her family growing coffee on a sustainable farm with fruits and vegetables. Stefany Martinez, the youngest contributor, processes her own coffees and experiments with new techniques. The coffee is grown at 1,650-1,800 meters altitude in Pitalito, Huila. The blend features Caturra, Supremo, and Pink Bourbon varieties, all washed processed. It is silky smooth and sweet, working well as espresso and filter.
Girls Who Grind Coffee was founded in 2017 by Fi O'Brien and Casey LaLonde in Wiltshire. Fi, originally from Australia, handles brand and design; Casey, from upstate New York, is head roaster and a qualified Q Grader who has been working in coffee since 2006. The roastery sources exclusively from women coffee producers. Through their Cheek to Cheek initiative, 10% of all retail coffee sales goes directly to the women farmers and producers they work with, on top of fair pricing for the green coffee itself. Casey roasts on a Giesen, developing profiles on an IKAWA sample roaster. Each retail bag features an illustrated portrait representing the spirit of the producer, designed by Fi and her husband.
