Rose Coffee Roasters

About This Coffee

This is a Geisha variety coffee from Alto Jaramillo near Boquete in Panama, grown at 1500 meters altitude. The lot was processed using anaerobic fermentation before being washed, then dried in a controlled dark room with dehumidification. The Palenzuela Family owns the farm with Manuel Barsallo overseeing processing and quality. The coffee displays a classic washed Geisha profile with vibrant notes of jasmine, apricot acidity, juicy peach, and grapefruit, complemented by complex florals including coffee blossom and orange blossom, finished with a clean tea-like aftertaste.

Rose Coffee Roasters

Rose Coffee Roasters was founded in 2022 in Zurich by Matt Winton, the 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion, together with Frederic Brunner. Matt's background spans aircraft engineering in Australia and years of competition at the highest level of specialty coffee. The team, which includes Sierra Yeo (2022 UK Brewers Cup Champion), roasts exclusively on Stronghold electric roasters powered by 100% renewable electricity. Every batch is roasted to order, with a deliberate focus on brightness, sweetness, and flavor. Rose sources top end specialty lots through direct relationships with farmers in Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, and Indonesia. The name represents a duality Matt finds in great coffee: something simple and familiar on the surface, yet layered and complex underneath. It is a small, independent roastery with no shortcuts and no cheap blends.
