This limited release coffee is a collaboration among members of the Costa Rican Chapter of the International Women's Coffee Alliance. Producers include Kathia Zamora (Cloza Farm), Ceci Genis (Zalmari Farm), Carole Zbinden (El Quizzara Farm), and Marianella Baez Jost (Café con Amor). The coffee originates from the regions of Alajuela, Heredia, and Cartago in Costa Rica. It is a white honey processed blend featuring Caturra, Catuai, and Villa Sarchi varieties. The medium roast has tasting notes of orange zest, honey, toasted almonds, graham cracker, apple, and tangerine citrus. It has medium body and medium acidity with a smooth mouthfeel. The flavor evolves into fruitier notes as it cools. Produced with carbon footprint friendly methods.
Uncommon Coffee started as a cafe in Saugatuck, Michigan in 1994, founded by Guy Darienzo and Stephen Keye. In 2021, after 27 years under the original owners, the business was acquired by Bruno Nobre and Mauricio DaSilva, both from multi generational coffee farming families in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. They had previously supplied beans to Uncommon as partner farmers, making the transition from grower to roaster a natural one. The roastery now serves over 200 businesses across the Midwest. Uncommon is farmer owned and minority owned, and operates with a goal of being landfill free, using BPI certified compostable cups and sleeves throughout.
