This coffee is a washed landrace variety sourced from smallholder farmers at the Banko Taratu site in the Gedeo Zone of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. Grown at an altitude of 1900-2300 meters, the cherries undergo a double fermentation process before being dried on raised beds for 12-15 days. This light roast coffee features a complex flavor profile with notes of orange, mango, pluot, and black tea, offering a balance of tropical sweetness and structured clarity.
Founded in 2020 at the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, Moonwake Coffee Roasters emerged from the passion of two former tech engineers, Ming Wood from Tesla and Mabel Yeung from Meta. What began as Ming's personal coffee project within Tesla's internal coffee club evolved into a full roastery operation after both founders chose to leave their tech careers to pursue coffee full time between 2023 and 2024. Moonwake represents a growing movement of technologists who discovered that coffee roasting offers greater fulfillment than their previous careers, channeling engineering precision into specialty coffee.
