This single-origin coffee is from Aquiares Estate in Turrialba, Costa Rica, grown at 1200-1400 meters altitude. The variety is F1 Centroamericano, a hybrid of Sarchimor and Rume Sudan. The red honey processing method involves depulping the cherries without removing the mucilage, pre-drying for two days, then drying on raised beds at 28-40°C for eight days. The farm was founded in 1890 and is located on the Turrialba volcano between the Aquiares and Turrialba rivers. The cup offers apple, peach, red grape, vanilla, and dark cherry notes with a smooth, velvety finish.
Felix Teiretzbacher founded kaffeelix in 2012, initially to supply his own café before specializing completely in roasting. His approach is to roast coffees relatively light, a method that highlights the unique characteristics of a bean's origin and processing rather than masking them with roasted notes. This dedication has paid off, with Felix winning the World Coffee Roasting Championship in 2022.
