Empower Coffee Roasters

About This Coffee

Single-origin coffee from ASMUCAFE, an association of women farmers and landowners in El Tambo, Cauca, Colombia. Grown at altitudes between 1715-1750 meters. The coffee consists of Castillo and Colombia varieties, picked as purple and bright red cherries respectively. It undergoes a double fermentation process: cherries are first left in loading hoppers for 14 hours, then depulped and placed in open fermentation tanks for another 10 hours, washed three to four times, and dried in parabolic dryers or sun-dried for 8-12 days. A special price premium supports female empowerment projects within the association.

Empower Coffee Roasters

Zach and Denise Gamza opened Empower Coffee Roasters in April 2020 in Mesa, Arizona, building a 700 square foot facility that houses the roastery, a small kitchen, and front of house seating. Roasting runs on a 5 pound machine made by Arizona based Buckeye Coffee Roasters, with green coffee sourced through Cafe Femenino and Cafe Imports. Five percent of all sales go to nonprofits supporting women and girls through education and career development, including a partnership with the Live and Learn organization in Arizona. The woman owned operation sources specifically from women run coffee farms around the world.
