This coffee is a Caturra varietal from Colombia, specifically from the San Agustín region in Huila. It is a fermentation washed coffee with extended fermentation ranging from 72 to 190 hours, often involving lactic fermentation techniques. The coffee presents bright, fruity flavors with tasting notes of strawberry candy, plum, lychee, chocolate mousse, and pomegranate. It has a medium roast with lively acidity and a smooth, balanced finish. The beans are produced by the Hernandez family at Finca Los Nogales, who continue their father's legacy through sustainable farming practices.
Black Acres was established in 2018 by Travis Bell in Baltimore's Station North district. The Black owned roastery specialises in single origin and blended coffees, roasting all beans in house in small batches and sourcing ethically from South America and Africa with an emphasis on supply chain transparency. The business is part of Ignite Capital's social entrepreneur network and provides training programmes for employees covering coffee knowledge, customer service, and manufacturing. Alongside its retail locations at Open Works and Lexington Market, the roastery offers local Tuesday afternoon deliveries and direct to consumer subscriptions.
