Alvarium Roasting

About This Coffee

This coffee is from Villabetulia, a 20-hectare family-run farm in Acevedo, Colombia at 1,550 meters altitude. The farm is owned by Luis Anibal Calderon who purchased it 20 years ago from three separate owners. His wife, sons, and brother-in-law all work on the farm. The coffee undergoes an anaerobic honey process where ripe cherry is placed in tanks with no water for 4 days, then de-pulped and spread on raised beds for a day, and finally dried in silos for 4-5 days.

Alvarium Roasting

Alvarium Roasting launched in January 2022 as a sister venture of Alvarium Beer Company in New Britain, Connecticut. The business is owned by Kate Bugnacki, Michael Larson, and Brian Bugnacki, with Jacob Failla directing roasting operations. All coffee is roasted to order weekly and sourced ethically from multiple countries, with the blends carrying bee and nature themed names that reflect the parent brand's identity. The roastery operates a retail café at its New Britain headquarters alongside a second location at the GastroPark in West Hartford, and the partnership with the brewery creates opportunities for beer and coffee collaborations.
