This single origin coffee from Rwanda features Red Bourbon variety grown by smallholder farmers in the Nyamasheke District, Western Province and Nyaruguru District, Southern Province at altitudes of 1550-1900 meters. The coffee undergoes a 72-hour natural anaerobic process where cherries are sealed in plastic barrels for fermentation, then dried over 50-55 days with meticulous temperature monitoring. Part of the Ukuri lot conceived by Baho Coffee to demonstrate that Rwandan coffee is inherently great beyond just microlots. This medium roast was designed for espresso but works well for pour over or filter brewing, offering deep chocolatey, berry goodness with gooey fudge and chocolate covered blueberry notes.
The Artery Community Roasters is a social enterprise based in Ottawa, Ontario, employing people living with disabilities at living wages. They roast in small batches on a Coffee Crafters Artisan XL with a capacity of up to 10 pounds per roast, and ship within one week of roasting. Sourcing is done on a direct trade basis, maintaining one to two degrees of separation from the farmers. The Artery was named Coffee Roaster of the Month by Commonly Coffee.
