Gera Estate is a washed single-origin coffee from Djimmah, Ethiopia, grown at 1900-2200 meters altitude. Made from Ethiopian Landrace varietal, it features a light roast with medium body. The beans are shade-grown with sustainable farming practices including natural fertilization. Tasting notes include lemon tea, dried apricot, and milk chocolate with characteristic fruity and tea-like flavors and bright acidity.
Uncommon Coffee started as a cafe in Saugatuck, Michigan in 1994, founded by Guy Darienzo and Stephen Keye. In 2021, after 27 years under the original owners, the business was acquired by Bruno Nobre and Mauricio DaSilva, both from multi generational coffee farming families in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. They had previously supplied beans to Uncommon as partner farmers, making the transition from grower to roaster a natural one. The roastery now serves over 200 businesses across the Midwest. Uncommon is farmer owned and minority owned, and operates with a goal of being landfill free, using BPI certified compostable cups and sleeves throughout.
