Strangers Coffee

About This Coffee

This exceptional natural lot was processed at the cherry mill in Ayarza, Santa Rosa, Guatemala. The coffee is produced by smallholder farmers, with Arnaldo López being one of the key producers farming 12.6 hectares. The lot undergoes a 120-hour (5-day) cherry fermentation in anaerobic conditions, followed by patio drying and mechanical finishing. The varieties grown include Bourbon, Catuai, and Pache, cultivated at altitudes between 1600-2000 meters above sea level. The coffee offers distinctive flavor notes of strawberry, pineapple cubes, and roasted hazelnut.

Strangers Coffee

Strangers Coffee was established in 2009 in Norwich by Alex Sargeant and Samuel Maddocks, with William Maddocks joining the team in 2014 to form a trio of brothers at the helm. The roastery operates from Dove Street in the centre of Norwich, supplying four locations across the city including their original Pottergate café. Alex has been named in the top 15 of the UK Barista Championships twice, and the business has been recognised among the top nine specialty coffee shops in the country. Every coffee is sampled before the green beans are purchased and profiled on a sample roaster before any quantity is committed. After roasting, each batch goes through colour readings, solubility checks, and taste analysis to maintain consistency. Their Fine City Blend, named after Norwich's nickname, was the first blend they created and has since won a Great Taste Award.
