Guatemala San Marcos - Espresso

Franz Morish Kaffeerösterei

About This Coffee

A washed Arabica farmer's blend from the COIPEC cooperative (formerly APPECE) in the San Marcos region of Guatemala. Sourced from small-scale farmers whose plantations run along the narrow valley slopes of the Río Naranjo tributary, grown at high altitude as Strictly Hard Bean (SHG). The blend features Bourbón and Caturra varieties. Imported via Quijote Coffee, it offers a soft to medium body with chocolatey flavors and beautiful floral notes. Annual rainfall of 2,500–3,000 mm supports diverse cultivation alongside coffee.

Franz Morish Kaffeerösterei

Franz Morish Kaffeerösterei opened in 2015 in Leipzig, near the Grassi Museum, establishing itself as one of the city's few roasters with a fully visible in house roasting operation. Their approach to espresso involves slightly higher final temperatures and longer roast times to reduce acidity and build body, while filter coffees are roasted faster to preserve bright, fruity flavors. This dual methodology reflects a thoughtful understanding of how different brewing methods demand different things from the bean. They source specialty grade green coffee from origins including Colombia's Huila region, Brazil, India, and Congo, offering both single origins and omni roasts.
