About This Coffee

This is a Natural Yirgacheffe Halo Hartume Grade 1 coffee from Ethiopia's Gedeo Zone. Grown in the Gedeb region at altitudes between 1550-2200 meters, this coffee is produced by 765 smallholder farmers in the village of Halo Hartume in collaboration with SNAP Specialty Coffee. The beans are naturally processed, sun-dried on raised beds, and made up of heirloom Dega and Wolisho varieties. The coffee presents tasting notes of blackberry, cherry, pastry, and citrus zest with a medium roast profile.

Black Acres was established in 2018 by Travis Bell in Baltimore's Station North district. The Black owned roastery specialises in single origin and blended coffees, roasting all beans in house in small batches and sourcing ethically from South America and Africa with an emphasis on supply chain transparency. The business is part of Ignite Capital's social entrepreneur network and provides training programmes for employees covering coffee knowledge, customer service, and manufacturing. Alongside its retail locations at Open Works and Lexington Market, the roastery offers local Tuesday afternoon deliveries and direct to consumer subscriptions.
