About This Coffee

A washed Kenya AA from the Ichamara factory in Nyeri, part of the New Gikaru Farmers Cooperative Society, grown on the slopes below Mount Kenya at 1600–1800 m.a.s.l. Produced by smallholder farmers using varieties SL-28, SL-34, and Ruiru-11. Cherry is hand-sorted, depulped, fermented overnight, washed in fresh water, channel-sorted by density, and dried on raised beds for 1–2 weeks. Light espresso roast with flavor notes of cherry, raspberry, and hibiscus, with a tea-like finish.

Fjord Coffee

Kresten Thøgersen, Morgan Love, and James Maguire founded Fjord Coffee in 2016, born from a collaboration between the Father Carpenter and Silo cafe teams who pooled resources to build a shared roasting operation. The roastery is located in East Berlin, where the team works on a cast iron Probat roaster using a unique combination of conduction and convection methods. Their Nordic style roasting philosophy draws out naturally sweet and vibrant flavors while showcasing the diversity of regions and processing methods from origins including Brazil, El Salvador, Colombia, Kenya, Guatemala, and Ethiopia. Direct trade relationships with farmers go beyond simple sourcing, often extending to the creation of experimental lots developed in partnership. In 2023, Fjord and Father Carpenter formally separated, with each pursuing its own roasting identity while retaining the collaborative spirit that brought them together.
