Alvarium Roasting

About This Coffee

This coffee is a Malawi Mzuzu AB Plus from the Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union Limited. The coffee represents 2,700 small scale farmers, with over 30% being women farmers. The beans are grown across multiple regions including Misuku Hills in the north along the Songwe River (border with Tanzania), the Central regions of Phoka Hills, Viphya North, and Nkhata Bay Highlands along Lake Malawi's western coast, and South East Mzimba in the southern upper valley. The varieties are a mixture of Catimor 129, Nyika Catimor and a small percentage of Geisha. This is a light roast with flavor notes of craisins, granola, and dark chocolate.

Alvarium Roasting

Alvarium Roasting launched in January 2022 as a sister venture of Alvarium Beer Company in New Britain, Connecticut. The business is owned by Kate Bugnacki, Michael Larson, and Brian Bugnacki, with Jacob Failla directing roasting operations. All coffee is roasted to order weekly and sourced ethically from multiple countries, with the blends carrying bee and nature themed names that reflect the parent brand's identity. The roastery operates a retail café at its New Britain headquarters alongside a second location at the GastroPark in West Hartford, and the partnership with the brewery creates opportunities for beer and coffee collaborations.
