Alt Wien Kaffee

About This Coffee

This single origin coffee from the local brand "La Perla" comes from the Café Mujer women's initiative of the Norcafé cooperative in Amazonas Province, Peru. Produced by ten women producers at over 1800 meters altitude, it is washed processed. The coffee is from the modern roasting series, roasted quickly and briefly to retain diverse nuances and fruit aromas. Varieties include Catucai, Bourbon, and Pache. The coffee develops citrus and caramel aromas and tastes like warm, spicy fruit juice when prepared as espresso. It is optimized for modern espresso preparation with lower brewing temperatures (88-90 degrees) and pre-brewing.

Alt Wien Kaffee

Operating since 2000 from Schleifmuhlgasse in Vienna's Wieden district near the Naschmarkt, Alt Wien Kaffee is a roastery with deep roots in the city's coffee tradition. They roast daily in small 12 kilogram batches, and every roast is handpicked following traditional methods, yielding over 40 varieties that span strong and dry to mild and fruity. The lineup includes both Arabica and Robusta blends, with several organic and fair trade certified options among the 14 or so types of coffee available at any time. All beans are roasted naturally without additives, and there is a tasting bar where customers can try freshly roasted coffee on the spot. The roastery appeals equally to traditionalists and more adventurous coffee drinkers, and the knowledgeable baristas are known for guiding people through the range with genuine expertise.
