About This Coffee

This espresso blend is offered from June to October each year, featuring single origin coffees or a mix of origins roasted with a longer roast profile and higher final temperature. The roasting approach lessens acidity while emphasizing sweetness. The blend offers subtle apple flavors on top of chocolate, with softer acidity than Penstock's Archimedes Blend. The finish is reminiscent of sweet pipe tobacco and granny smith apples. While designed for espresso extraction, it also makes great filter coffee on any brewing device.

Penstock Coffee Roasters was originally founded in 2009 as OQ Coffee by Ben and Jessica Schellack before rebranding to Penstock in December 2018. Based in Highland Park, New Jersey, the roastery holds CCOF certified organic status and sources 85% of its coffee directly from farms in Central and South America, building relationships rooted in transparency and shared values. The remaining 15% comes from coffees bearing certified organic, Fair Trade, Bird Friendly, or Rainforest Alliance designations, ensuring all selections meet rigorous standards. Two time Good Food Awards finalist status in 2017 and 2018, alongside a Community Dividends Grants program supporting social justice projects, reflects commitment extending beyond coffee into systemic change.
