Stockholm Roast

Johan Montan Ahlgren and Oner Kulbay founded Stockholm Roast in 2011 with a stated ambition to challenge the coffee industry and people's taste buds. They handle everything themselves, from choosing and importing beans to roasting and wholesale distribution, with a particular affinity for single estate Brazilian coffees. The roastery operates from Slakthusomradet, Stockholm's historic meatpacking district, and was the first independent business to move into the area. The space functions as roastery, coffee bar, and wine bar, with an adjacent restaurant called Bar Montan run by a chef friend. Oner and Johan visit Brazil each harvest season to taste dozens of lots and select three to five for the lineup, roasting them somewhat deeply to produce a rich, mildly acidic profile with a clear aftertaste. The operation also spawned a Tokyo outpost, Stockholm Roast Tokyo, the only shop in Japan officially offering the same beans.
