Alt Wien Kaffee

About This Coffee

This specialty coffee originates from the Kii Factory Wet Mill in the Kirinyaga region, located on the green slopes of Mount Kenya. Cultivated at altitudes between 1,600 and 1,800 meters by approximately 950 smallholder farmers of the Rungeto Cooperative, the coffee is grown in the shade of Grevillea and Muringa trees. The coffee is washed processed, with cherries being depulped, fermented, washed, and dried on raised African beds. The flavor profile features notes of juicy mandarin with herbal hints, fruity and lively on the palate with complex acidity reminiscent of green tea, complemented by citrus and honey nuances. The finish is refreshing and clear with pleasant lightness. This light roast coffee is specifically suited for filter methods including Hario V60, Kalita, Chemex, and French Press.

They roast daily in small 12 kilogram batches, and every roast is handpicked following traditional methods, yielding over 40 varieties that span strong and dry to mild and fruity.
