Süd Sudan Excelsa Regenwald Kaffee

Süd Sudan Excelsa Regenwald Kaffee

Alt Wien Kaffee

About This Coffee

This exceptional Excelsa coffee originates from Nzara in Western Equatoria, South Sudan, where 191 smallholder farmers cultivate their plants in integrated agroforestry systems on non-cleared land. The coffee is supported by the local organization COD as part of a project financed by Caritas Austria. The Excelsa variety is climate-resilient, heat- and drought-tolerant. Processed using the honey washed method, the coffee displays notes of pear, caramel, and yellow apple on the nose, with honey, rosehip, and cascara on the palate, followed by a butter-smooth finish with sweet mandarin. The caffeine content is approximately in the Arabica range, resulting in a mild, fruity, and complex cup without excessive bitterness.

Alt Wien Kaffee

Operating since 2000 from Schleifmuhlgasse in Vienna's Wieden district near the Naschmarkt, Alt Wien Kaffee is a roastery with deep roots in the city's coffee tradition. They roast daily in small 12 kilogram batches, and every roast is handpicked following traditional methods, yielding over 40 varieties that span strong and dry to mild and fruity. The lineup includes both Arabica and Robusta blends, with several organic and fair trade certified options among the 14 or so types of coffee available at any time. All beans are roasted naturally without additives, and there is a tasting bar where customers can try freshly roasted coffee on the spot. The roastery appeals equally to traditionalists and more adventurous coffee drinkers, and the knowledgeable baristas are known for guiding people through the range with genuine expertise.
