This coffee is sourced from 410 farmers in the Gedeb region of Ethiopia who deliver their cherries to the Worka Haro washing station. The beans are processed using an anaerobic natural method where ripe cherries are selected using a brix meter, floated to separate density, and then fermented in sealed plastic bags before being dried on raised beds. The coffee is made from Ethiopian Heirloom variety and grown at elevations between 1650 and 2500 meters. The tasting notes include Cherry, Papaya, Lemon, and Blackberry with a light roast profile.
Black Acres was established in 2018 by Travis Bell in Baltimore's Station North district. The Black owned roastery specialises in single origin and blended coffees, roasting all beans in house in small batches and sourcing ethically from South America and Africa with an emphasis on supply chain transparency. The business is part of Ignite Capital's social entrepreneur network and provides training programmes for employees covering coffee knowledge, customer service, and manufacturing. Alongside its retail locations at Open Works and Lexington Market, the roastery offers local Tuesday afternoon deliveries and direct to consumer subscriptions.
