The cafe hopping culture in Thailand has long spilled over from major cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai to towns and beach destinations such as Phuket. Specialty coffee can be found all over the island, from historical Phuket Town to popular beaches like Bang Tao, Kamala and Karon, making Phuket the perfect choice for a caffeinated getaway. Check out my recommendations for places to stay close to my favorite third wave cafes.

Campus Coffee Roasters was a favorite of mine while spending time in Phuket. The owner Ittipat Klomkliang, who got into coffee in his student years, learned about roasting through trial and error. He eventually opened this coffee shop which used to be a pharmacy in its previous life. For drip you will be able to choose between a Thai bean and an imported bean. I thoroughly enjoyed sampling their signature drinks and the different beans on offer. Good news for folks staying in Patong, they opened a second location in your area.

Shelter Coffee has a very strong manual-brewing focus, particularly on the AeroPress. This is not surprising considering I often encountered Songkran Phothipunya behind the bar, who has won the Thai Aeropress Championship. Shelter Coffee started out in Dibuk Road, Phuket Old Town, but after eight years in the game have moved to open a larger space near the stadium in Vichitsongkram Rd.

Housed in a two-storey building in Old Town, this multifunctional café, restaurant and bar is catering to daytime visitors, dining crowds and the evening social scene all at once. An upscale menu, stylish interior and great signature coffee menu make it a great place to hang out at all hours.

sync is a clean, loft-style cafe serving specialty coffee in the beach town Kamala. It is a nicely quiet place, great to get some work done with a cup of drip coffee or espresso based drinks.

Street Cafe has been around since 2018 and is serving up great espresso based drinks right between Karon and Kata beach.
