Kittel Coffee

About This Coffee

A natural-processed coffee from the Uraga district in Guji, Ethiopia, produced by the Harsu Wachu community at altitudes between 2050-2300 meters above sea level. The coffee features landrace varieties grown in dense mountainous forests. It offers tasting notes of strawberry, elderflower, and buttercream with a smooth, creamy finish. More than 360 producers from the Haro Wachu community contribute cherries to the washing station. The region's soil is a fertile sandy loam with excellent water retention and drainage, and farmers produce shade-grown coffees intercropped with subsistence food crops.

Kittel Coffee

Named from the Yiddish word meaning "to tickle," Kittel Coffee is a Montreal micro roastery founded in 2018 by a husband and wife team in the Rosemont neighborhood. The small batch approach allows precise control over roast profiles, which tend toward light to medium and are designed to highlight origin characteristics from Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. Direct trade and transparent sourcing guide the buying, and the curated selection is kept intentionally tight, typically three to five coffees at any given time. The philosophy centers on coffee as a medium for human connection and community rather than just a product. Kittel has carved out a warm, welcoming presence in Montreal's specialty scene with occasional cuppings and a subscription service for those who want regular deliveries.
