About This Coffee

This washed coffee comes from the Gichathaini wet mill in the Nyeri county, Mathira West district of Kenya. Located on the eastern side of Mt. Kenya national park, the mill is serviced by 1045 members of the Gikanda Farmers' Cooperative Society. The coffee is grown at elevations between 1600-1900 meters in deep, red volcanic soil with terrific water drainage. Varieties include SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru-11, and Batian. The cup profile features floral notes with star fruit and finger lime. This is a filter roast coffee processed using traditional washed methods with water drawn from the nearby Ragati river.

After more than eight years of preparation, Manta Ray Coffee Roasters opened their flagship roastery in Nunawading, Melbourne, in October 2022. The industrial chic space features a visible roasting area framed by large windows, inviting visitors into the process. Drawing on a background in film color grading, the team approaches roasting as a form of creative expression, seeking to reveal depth and character in every batch. Award winners at the 2019 Roasters Smackdown and 2023 ASCA competitions, they offer their signature Outsider Blend alongside rotating single origins and an automated pour over experience at the bar.
