Alt Wien Kaffee

About This Coffee

This coffee comes from the western valleys of Honduras near the Guatemalan border, grown at approximately 1500 meters altitude in semi-shade conditions. The coffee plants grow in the subtropical climate and nutrient-rich soils of the Maya Mountains. The Medina family has cultivated coffee on their finca near Santa Rosa de Copan for five generations using sustainable farming methods. The Pacamara variety produces particularly large beans that ripen slowly and are gently sun-dried. The flavor profile features amaretto, milk chocolate, and butter cookie notes, complemented by dark chocolate, nut, and a hint of red wine, finishing with a sweet-dry character.

Alt Wien Kaffee

Operating since 2000 from Schleifmuhlgasse in Vienna's Wieden district near the Naschmarkt, Alt Wien Kaffee is a roastery with deep roots in the city's coffee tradition. They roast daily in small 12 kilogram batches, and every roast is handpicked following traditional methods, yielding over 40 varieties that span strong and dry to mild and fruity. The lineup includes both Arabica and Robusta blends, with several organic and fair trade certified options among the 14 or so types of coffee available at any time. All beans are roasted naturally without additives, and there is a tasting bar where customers can try freshly roasted coffee on the spot. The roastery appeals equally to traditionalists and more adventurous coffee drinkers, and the knowledgeable baristas are known for guiding people through the range with genuine expertise.
